Link Juice Optimization (LJO)

For large sites, Link Juice Optimization is one of the best strategy to get some quick wins in SEO.

There might be a lot of pages and article pointing to your site that are not pointing to a relevant page or pointing to a 404 page.

The goal of Link Juice Optimization is to either make the referred page more relevant or create a new page that passes relevant link juice and also the reservoir that collects the link juice is also filled with similar theme. i.e. if the backlink passes blue link juice, the reservoir should also contain blue juice.

Like Through Rate or LTR is a quality factor of your Facebook Page and the target audience. i.e. it is good indicator to tell how good is your page and posts that encourage visitors who click your ads to like the page.

This is actually the percentage of people that like your page from the total number of visitors that clicked your ads. It is a very good indicator to tell how good is your page for the target audience. Becuase, the best page can be not likebale by random audience.

Twitter changes RSS location of your timeline

The previous version of the location of Twitter Timeline RSS used to be at: http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/11089002.rss 
In the URL 174451720 is the Twitter ID number. You can find yours from http://www.idfromuser.com. Enter your Twitter Handle and hit submit to get your ID Number.
If you visit the previous RSS feed location: http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/11089002.rss 
You’ll see that it says:
Sorry, that page does not exist.
Now, the URL is changed to:
http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline/11089002.rss
But this would be easier to remember:
http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=seoppcsmm 
One of the problem with later URL is, it’ll break down if you plan to change Twitter Handle.

13 Prophecies of Internet Marketing | Social Media Today

My 2008 Article in Marketing Pilgrim was also published in Social Media Today. There I made some bold predictions and most of them became true, except for the buzzy topic “SEO will be History”. Which was used intentionally to create buzz :-)

The Prophecies


Prophecy #1: Onsite Search Engine Optimization (SEO) will be History

SEO is not dead and Visual Algorithm is not yet fully in place. But, Google now owns Chrome, whic they did not in 2008. So, they do have the technology to make it happen.

 

Prophecy #2: Searching will become more User-friendly


I actually predicted Google Search Preview and Instant Search here. This was not available in 2008.

Prophecy #3: More Personalized & Localized Results will Influence SEM

This is more true now. And more prominent than the personalized search in 2008.

Prophecy #4: Natural Language Reputation Algorithm will be a Great Factor

Google can identify LSI spamming. But, it is unsure that they are really using such algorithm.

Prophecy #5: Copying Themes will be punished by Near Duplicate Content Filter

Near duplicate contents are being covered by Google with the Penguin update.  Google mentioned that they can identify content spinning.

Prophecy #6: TrustRank will be Stronger than PageRank

TrustRank was in infancy in 2008. But, this is more true now.

Prophecy #7: Online Social Media will kill Traffic from Search Engines

This was bold and I was true.

Prophecy #8: Handheld Devices will Rule Future Traffic

Remeber, I said Handhelds, not mobile phones. I really did not think about iPhone or iPad, which was not available during 2008. We are yet to see the groeth of Tablets. I also said:

Newsletter circulation will switch from emails to Online Social Medias

Isn’t that already happening through Facebook Pages?

Prophecy #9: Email will be the Least Used for Personal Communication

Bold prediction, I agree it was a bit predictable. But, it already has happened.

Prophecy #10: Personal Power to Influence Purchase will Increase

The power of blog is alredy prominent in Search Engines and Social Media. But, if Google fully implements its Authorship Program, this will be more true.

Prophecy #11: Web-based Consumer Analytics will be Major Internet Marketing Process

Web Analytics is no longer a tool for Webmasters and SEOs. It has spread to other part of managerial decission making. but, this has a long way to go.

Prophecy #12: Web Cluster and Widgets will mean Businesses for Small Companies

Well, it left it’s infancy and gained adoloscence in 2008. But, we know this is more true now and in it’s youth.

Prophecy #13: Future Internet Marketers will be Personal Helper

Corrected:  The Broadcasting Media will Merge with the Internet

The published prophecy is more similar to Prophecy #11 (Consumer Analyics). So, I revised the prophecy and mentioned that  TV, Internet, and Phone will be just one media.

Barry’s compiled tips are:

- De-optimize the web site
- Increase quality links to pages
- Make sure link anchor text is more natural
- Remove links from blogrolls
- Scale back the internal link anchor text
- Exact match domains hurt
- Practice negative SEO
- Move content to a new domain
- Build a smaller site with very few pages
- Write better content
- Add more social elements, i.e. Google+ Sharing
- Site audit to determine problem areas
- Think more long term with my site, stop taking short cuts

PostRank Sunsetting as Separate Service and Google Reader Addon from May 1, 2012

PostRank was undoubtedly the best tool for see the social engagement of feed item in a RSS Feed and evaluate the popularity of a link. The problem is no other tool has grew up to be close to PostRank (Previously “AideRSS”).

That is why PostRank has become one of the most used plugin for Google Reader to isolate important stuffs from the noise.

That’s why couple of years ago, Google bought them and started to research on their ability to integrate it in their various tools. The major tool that Google thought was not Google Reader, rather it was Google Analytics. Google has integrated PostRank in their Social Metrics Tracking at http://analytics.blogspot.com/2012/03/capturing-value-of-social-media-using.html

This means that you will not see PostRank as Google Reader plugin any more :-( This means that there will not be any tool in the world that can effectively identify best post from a RSS Feed. Though, I have a question still live in quora about it at http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-Alternatives-for-PostRank-to-Find-the-Importance-of-a-Post-in-a-RSS-Feed 

But, this also calls for a new product development. RIP, PostRank.
